The hovering, mournful and beautiful intensity of Danish composer Bent Sørensen’s music is compelling. Fans of Béla Bartók and Györgi Ligeti should make sure not to miss this Danish premiere of Sørensen’s sublime Shadowplay, a piece that involves no fewer than three trios comprising some of Denmark’s and Scandinavia’s leading musicians: SCENATET, Trio Aristos with Jakob Kullberg, and a new trio with Katrine Gislinge, Hans Christian Bræin and Eriika Nylund. These three ensembles will meet to create a spatial and sonic experience, by playing in three different positions around Glyptoteket’s atmospheric Ceremonial Hall. Shadowplay bedazzled both the audience and critics when it was performed for the first time in 2011 at Huddersfield Contemporary Music festival, England’s largest festival for new music.
